On March 18, 2020, the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) enacted special measures to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and many drivers are wondering what Government services are still available during this period.

We want to walk you through the operations still available at Tax Administration of Jamaica (TAJ), because these are factors which affect premiums and policy cover:

Here are the details:

  1. Be sure to use the TAJ online platform at www.jamaicatax.gov.jm for filing, payment and other services available, anytime and anywhere
  2. Certificate of Fitness fees can be paid online
  3. Tax offices across the island remain open, but ONLY 20 customers will be allowed in at a time. Please expect delays
  4. Motor Vehicle Registration Certificates can only be processed in office as this service is not available online
  5. TAJ will operate regular hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Mondays to Wednesdays and 8:00 am to 3:00 pm on Thursdays and Fridays. The Portmore office also opens 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturdays
  6. In-office collections accepted include filing and paying business related taxes, such as traffic tickets, income tax, general consumption tax, employer’s annual return and querying and paying property tax

Some services are suspended. These include:

  • Issuance of motor vehicle titles
  • Collection of Driver’s Licence Examination Fee
  • Collection of fees for police records
  • Same-day service for the renewal of driver’s licence

TAJ has advised that they are limiting the direct interactions between compliance and audit officers with clients and are encouraging customers to sign up for online services, to avail themselves of the digital tax service options.Tax Offices still open to you
