Hurricane Beryl Preparedness Tips
As we prepare for the possible impacts of Hurricane Beryl, we at General Accident want to ensure that you and your loved ones are well-prepared and protected. We are here to help you every step of the way. Here are some tips to help you stay prepared before the storm and the steps you can take after if you experience any impacts.
Hurricane Preparedness Tips:
- Create an Emergency Kit: Include essentials such as water, non-perishable food, a first aid kit and medications, personal hygiene items and hand sanitizer, flashlights, and batteries. Consider keeping important documents such as IDs, insurance policies, and bank records in a waterproof container. Ensure your cellular devices are fully charged, and invest in charging banks to keep in your emergency kit.
- Secure Your Property: Ensure that your home and vehicle are secured. Install storm shutters or board up windows and doors. Move valuable items to higher ground and secure objects like furniture and loose items. Trim trees and shrubs to minimize debris. Check your roof and clear your gutters. Local authorities may be distributing sandbags, so be sure to visit the nearest location to collect them.
- Stay Informed: Monitor weather updates and follow local authorities’ advice. You may also want to download a reliable weather app.
- Plan Your Evacuation: Identify emergency contacts and know your evacuation routes. Take note of the various shelters available within your area and have a plan in place should you need to leave your home.
- Check Your Insurance Coverage: Review your motor and property insurance policies to ensure adequate coverage. Contact us if you have any questions or need to make updates.
For ease of Claims Reporting:
- Report the Claim: Contact us as soon as it is safe to do so to report any damage. You can report your claim on our website and submit with the relevant photos at Incident Details | General Accident (genac.com). You may also contact us via our telephone numbers at 876-929-8450-4 or email us at hurricaneclaims@genac.com. Our claims team will then guide you through the process.
- Document the Damage: We highly recommend taking photos and videos of any damage to your property or vehicle to help with post-hurricane insurance claims. Take clear, wide-angle photos of all rooms, including floors and ceilings. Capture images of the exterior of your home, including the roof, windows, and doors. Photograph all valuable items and belongings. Keep receipts for any temporary repairs.
- Assessment: A claims adjuster will assess the damage and determine the extent of your (coverage.) loss
- Settlement: We will work with you to settle your claim as quickly and efficiently as possible.
- Repairs: Once the claim is approved, you can proceed with the necessary repairs.
